How to travel to Gardermoen as cheaply as possible!

Are you flying this summer holiday? Then you probably have plenty to plan and sort out. We are here to help you get started, and have figured out how to get to and from Gardermoen as cheaply as possible.

The summer holiday is fast approaching. Thousands of Norwegians are heading off on their travels — often southwards — to enjoy lazy holiday days. For many, that means getting to and from Gardermoen Airport, and preferably as cheaply as possible. There are many transport options available. Here we run through the most relevant ones.

Taxi to Gardermoen

A taxi offers freedom and a comfortable ride to the airport, but it is not cheap. The price of a taxi will naturally vary. The easiest way to calculate how much it will cost is through the comparison service Taxiguide. Here you can search for your starting point, date and departure time, and receive price quotes from different taxi companies. We based our example on an afternoon journey on a Friday during the summer holiday from Oslo S. Prices here range from 589 kroner for the cheapest to 1,438 kroner for the most expensive — for cars accommodating up to four passengers.

Bus to Gardermoen

Several companies run buses to Gardermoen, and prices vary depending on the company and your starting point. From Oslo S, Flybussen takes you to Gardermoen, and a ticket for one adult costs 179 kroner each way when booked in advance online or via an app. If you buy your ticket on board the bus, you will have to pay an on-board surcharge. Children aged 6–17 and senior citizens pay 99 kroner. If you are a family with children under 15, you can bring four children along for the price of one adult ticket — provided you book in advance.

Car to Gardermoen

If you choose to take the car to Gardermoen, you have the freedom to leave whenever you like, and you have several parking options. Dalen Parkering is one of them — and without doubt the cheapest. For a family of four, taking the car can be very cost-effective as you pay a single flat fee rather than return tickets for everyone. Leaving your car at Dalen Parkering for a week costs 490 kroner, including transport to and from the terminal. For a group of four, that works out at just 122 kroner per person for all transport to and from the airport. Of course, costs such as petrol, diesel, electricity and toll charges come on top. On Fjellinjen’s website you can calculate how much the toll charges to Gardermoen will cost you under the new system. PS! This summer, Dalen Parkering has a high season surcharge of 60 kroner, bringing the weekly price to 550 kroner until 4 August.

Train to Gardermoen

If you prefer to travel by train, you have two options: the local train with Vy, or the Airport Express Train (Flytoget). Prices vary quite a bit between the two. The cheapest option is the local train at 105 kroner each way for an adult ticket. Two adults with two children aged 6–17 costs a total of 316 kroner each way. These are online prices that require advance booking — buying tickets on the train will result in higher prices. For an adult ticket on Flytoget, you pay 196 kroner one way. Children under 16 travel free with an adult.

No matter how you choose to get to and from Gardermoen, every option has its advantages and disadvantages. If you are travelling as a larger group that fills the car, this will be the cheapest option — provided you park at Dalen Parkering.
