When is it important to book parking at Gardermoen?
We decide on a destination and book flights and hotel stays well in advance. But how early should you actually book a parking space at Gardermoen?
Norwegians have long become a people for whom travel plays a central role. Over the course of a year, it is not uncommon for many to head off abroad on multiple occasions. We are becoming well-travelled, and can often tick off more visited countries on the list than just Sweden and Denmark. We look forward to holidays and weekend trips, and the details are often planned well ahead of time. But — have you remembered to book a parking space at Gardermoen?
Do I always need to book parking at Gardermoen well in advance?
The short answer is of course no — you do not necessarily need to plan your parking at Gardermoen very far in advance. In most cases, it is actually fine to book a space as little as one day before you arrive at the airport.
That said, most people will feel more at ease with a little breathing room. It is important not to let parking become a source of stress for your trip. You do not need to worry about it the moment your flights are booked, but it is worth checking whether spaces are available somewhere between one and three days before you travel.
How far in advance does it pay to book during peak season?
While it is usually no problem to book a parking space at Gardermoen, there are of course always exceptions to the rule. During peak season, the situation is quite different. Perhaps you have already experienced it? Getting ready to travel during the main summer holiday, logging on a couple of days before the flight, only to find — oh dear, it is completely fully booked — is not a pleasant experience.
Some travellers have even found that the summer holiday period is so hectic and fully booked when it comes to parking at Gardermoen that they have had to resort to public transport. For many this is not a problem, but if a large family is travelling with young children in tow, it can quickly become a stressful start to the journey.
In July, car parks around Gardermoen are often full. It is therefore advisable to book early if the car is going to be your mode of transport to and from the airport. During the main holiday periods, you should ideally book a parking space at Gardermoen as early as 7 to 8 days before departure. It is also wise to book ahead for other major public holidays and long weekends. Whitsun, Easter, Christmas and New Year are all examples of times when there can be a lot of traffic around Norwegian airports. By booking early enough you can secure a much-needed space for your car, so that the holiday can begin in comfort.
